The Freeman Stage announced this week that Bruce in the USA will perform at the venue in West Fenwick on Friday, Sept. 6, when honored guests from Operation SEAs the Day will be in attendance.
Operation SEAs the Day is a beach week even for wounded veterans and their families, which will take place Sept. 3-8, now in its seventh year. The wounded veterans have gone from the battlefield to a hospital and then home — most have never received welcome home or a thank-you for their service, organizers noted.
In addition to attending the performance, the VIFs (Very Important Families) will take part in the A Hero’s Welcome parade. The families will depart from the Sea Colony Marketplace near Bethany Beach and travel to the Freeman Stage in a motorcade. Local communities and businesses are again being encouraged line the streets to cheer and recognize the wounded warrior families.
The Freeman Stage has participated in Operation SEAs the Day for the last six years, said Executive Director Patti Grimes.
“This is one of our favorite projects,” she said, “to bring the community together to celebrate the service of others. We’re excited for the Hero’s Welcome and to have the families as our guest at Bruce in the USA. We invite the community to join us in celebrating the VIFs, too.”
Bruce in the USA is a celebration of Bruce Springsteen & the E. St. Band. Matt Ryan began playing the Springsteen character in 2000 in the “Legends In Concert” Las Vegas show. The success in that show brought him to performances across the world, eventually evolving his character into the Bruce in the USA show.
“The Bruce in the USA Band consists of seasoned world-class professional musicians. This high-energy musical experience is fun-filled and exciting and the ultimate celebration of Bruce Springsteen & the E St. Band’s legacy.”
Tickets to the show cost $25 for adults and are free for children 12 or younger. They are available at freemanstage.org or by calling (302) 436-3015.
“Operation SEAs The Day is very excited that Bruce in The USA will return to the stage during Warrior Beach week 2019,” said Annette Reeping, OSTD board member. “‘Bruce in the USA is the ultimate celebration’ at Freeman Stage honoring America’s ultimate heroes — wounded soldiers and their families!”
