Rachel Mary Adda Hudson Pusey, 83, “Rachel” as everyone knew her, passed away in the care of her family, hospice and the staff of Bayhealth Sussex Medical Center in Milford, Del., on May 22, 2019. She was known as a talented, well-loved woman who made a great impression on all who knew her.
Pusey was born March 25, 1936, to the late Edward James and Hazel Mary Webb Hudson near Selbyville, Del. She married Merrill James Pusey on Sept. 29, 1953, and together they raised three children. Pusey was very involved in the community, active in politics and worked for the Delaware state and Sussex County governments, serving in the Prothonotary’s Office and then as deputy recorder of deeds, retiring in 2002.
She was a member of St. Mark’s Episcopal Church and held many offices theres over the years, including senior warden of the vestry. Pusey was also instrumental in the founding of the Christian Storehouse, which has been of great service to people in need in the Millsboro area for many years. She remained a very active person, talented in tailoring, interior decorating and coordinating formal teas. She also worked at Watson Funeral Home as a hostess and receptionist.
Pusey was preceded in death by her siblings Robert J. Hudson, Betty J. Hudson and Vernon Hudson. She is survived by her children, Desiree Iris Pusey of Millsboro, Dawn P. Conaway and her husband, Gary, of Seaford, Del., and Merrill Joe Pusey and his wife, Maryanne, of Milford, Del.; five grandchildren, Lacy Farmer, Garon Conaway, Erika Conaway, Schyler Conaway and Mekaela Pusey; two great-grandchildren, Logan Farmer and Chase Michael Farmer; her siblings Jennie L. Caudill, JoAnn Mitchell and Virgil Hudson; and her special friend, George M. Hampton.
A visitation and memorial service were to be held May 30, 2019, at Watson Funeral Home, Millsboro, Del., officiated by the Rev. Gerald Richards. Interment was to be private, at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Del.
