Salisbury Rollergirls to host two recruitment nights

The Salisbury Rollergirls are recruiting women 18 or older to skate in their roller derby league. Recruitment nights will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, July 21, and Sunday, Aug. 18, at Mitchell’s Martial Arts, 1305 South Division Street, Salisbury, Md. Women of any age, athletic ability and background are being encouraged to attend. No skating experience is required.

During the recruitment-night sessions, participants will hear firsthand how derby has changed the lives of skaters, as well as get tips on the basics of where to purchase gear and how to prepare for boot camp.

“Participants will have the opportunity to ask our current skaters anything they want to know about the sport we know and love!” representatives said.

From asphalt to rink, from a single squad to two intrepid teams, the Salisbury Rollergirls have steadily evolved since its inception in 2010 by founder Eva “Buster Skull” Whipple. The initial group of aspiring skaters has become a league of more than 30 athletes. They are on Facebook and at www.salisburyrollergirls.com.
