All-Star season set for first pitch

Summer baseball action is about to get as hot as the weather in the next few weeks, as the Lower Sussex Little League All-Star teams will begin their quests for 2019 championship glory in baseball and softball.

The District 3 State and Pat Knight tournaments all will see their first pitches take place in the coming weeks, with the Knight brackets set to kick things off on Thursday, June 20.

This year, there are only two age groups for baseball and one for softball. The baseball action will be in the 8- to 10-year-old division and the 10- to 12-year-old division. Softball’s lone bracket will take place the week of the Little League Senior Softball World Series at the Lower Sussex Little League’s Pyle Complex in Roxana at the end of July.

As of now, there are no other Pat Knight division games scheduled to take place.

The District 3 baseball tournament will get under way in the Senior Division (16- to 18-year-olds) on Wednesday, June 26, and will run through Tuesday, July 2. Then the 8- to 10-year-olds will start play on Friday, July 5, with an end date around July 11. The Major and Junior divisions will run on basically the same dates, starting with the Majors on Wednesday, July 10, and the Juniors on Saturday, July 13.

The state tournaments are all in July. Milton will host the 8- to 10-year-old tournament, while New Castle will host the Majors, Smyrna the Juniors and Georgetown the Seniors.

Over on the softball side of things, the Major division will be the first to get going, on Friday, June 28. The Juniors will begin on Tuesday, July 2, while the 8- to 10-year-olds will start on Saturday, July 6. The Senior District 3 tournament will take place over two days — Wednesday, July 24, and Thursday, July 25.

The state tournaments for softball will begin for the Majors and Juniors on Monday, July 8. Little Lass will host the Majors, while Nanticoke will have the site for the Juniors. Milford will be the destination for the 8- to 10-year-old state tournament, beginning on Monday, July 15. There is no state tournament for the Senior division, as they get an automatic bid to the Softball World Series as that division’s host at the Pyle Center.

Tournament schedules and results can be found on the District 3 website at, or by following the Coastal Point sports Facebook and Twitter pages.
