Shirley J. Emerson, 67, of Dagsboro, Del., passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Friday, June 7, 2019, at her home. She was born in Ocean View, Del., on July 6, 1951, daughter of the late Donald Cooper and Jean (Bertrand) Cooper.
Emerson was a graduate of John M. Clayton High School, in the Class of 1969. She worked for several years as paper carrier for the News Journal and also worked for the Ames department store in the 1970s and 1980s. She enjoyed making beaded jewelry, crafting and painting with oils, but, most of all, spending time with her family. Emerson was proud of her family and would attend all of her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s sporting and academic events.
In addition to her parents, Emerson was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Emerson Jr. in 2015. She is survived by a son, Gregory Lee Emerson and his wife, Joan, of Frankford, Del.; two daughters, Tonia Emerson of Dagsboro, and Lisa Wells and her husband, Rob, of Dagsboro; two brothers, Donald Cooper Jr. and his wife, Betty, of Smyrna, Del., and Wayne Cooper of Frankford; two sisters, Brenda Poole and her husband, Carl, of Roxana, Del., and Evelyn Hopkins and her husband, Ivory, of Harbeson, Del.; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was scheduled for June 13, 2019, at Melson Funeral Services in Ocean View, Del. Interment was to follow at Redmen Memorial Cemetery in Dagsboro, Del.
