Dolores Rickards West, 89, of Millsboro, Del., passed away Wednesday, June 5, 2019, at Atlantic Shores Nursing Home in Millsboro. She was born July 29, 1929, in Philadelphia, Pa., to the late John L. and Elizabeth Warden Rickards.
West married Roland E. West on June 30, 1951, and from that union had two children.
She served as Deputy Recorder of Deeds for Sussex County and co-farmed with her husband until 1953. She loved vegetable and flowers gardening, collecting glassware and spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a kind and caring person who put others needs ahead of herself. She will be dearly missed.
West was preceded in death by five siblings, Ada Bunting, Virginia Hitchens, Ellison Rickards, Edna Hudson and Donald Rickards. She is survived by her beloved husband of 67 years, Roland E. West of Millsboro; a daughter, Cheryl Roach of Millsboro; a son, Richard West and his wife, Dianna, of Millsboro; five grandchildren, Christine Anderson and her husband, Craig, Jennifer Leonard and her husband, Ty, Charlene Brown and her husband, Kyle, D.J. Roach and Shelley Roach; six great-grandchildren, Kiersten, Abrielle, Weston, Asher, Anberlin and Roxanne; and her nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Services will be held Saturday, June 15, 2019, at noon, with a viewing from 10 a.m. to noon, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, Del. Burial will follow in Millsboro Cemetery. Condolences may be sent online at www.watsonfh.com.
