Gerald Lee “Jerry” “Doc” Hand, 71, of Millsboro, Del., passed away at the Delaware Hospice Center on Thursday, June 27, 2019. He was born on March 4, 1948 in Salem, N.J.
Hand was a retired Air Force master-sergeant, serving a combined 27 years in the U.S. Air Force, Army and Navy, including serving with the Marines as a Navy corpsman during the Vietnam War. He was awarded the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for his combat service. Hand was very patriotic and a proud American. He was a member of Post 28 American Legion in Oak Orchard, Del.
Hand’s hobbies included softball, darts, boating, fishing and watching the Eagles win. He loved spending time with his family and friends — especially his grandchildren. Hand had a great sense of humor and was often the life of the party.
Hand was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Ecret and his stepfather, Francis Ecret. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara C. Hand of Millsboro; three children, Dale Wilson of Frederica, Del., Jeffrey Wilson and his wife, Stephanie, of Middletown, Del., and Michelle Tucker and her husband, Michael, of Harrington, Del.; four siblings, Frank Ecret and his wife, Jean, of Townsend, Del., William Penny Ecret of Venice, Fla., Rick Ecret of Florida and Sue Biernacki of Pennsville, N.J.; six grandchildren, Ryan, Brody and Colby Wilson; and Bryce, Alyssa and Abby Tucker; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
A memorial service was to be held July 10, 2019, at Watson Funeral Home in Millsboro, Del. Interment with the conferring of military honors was to be held privately.
