Andrew B. Harris, 85, of Millville, Del., formerly of Dagsboro, Del., Patterson, N.Y., and Yorktown, N.Y., passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019, at his home after a battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born Feb. 8, 1934, in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Eugene A. Harris and Charlotte (Nielson) Harris.
Harris proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959. He retired from work as a commercial artist, having worked for several advertising companies throughout his career. He was a talented artist and loved woodworking, with which he made beautiful decoys.
Harris also enjoyed playing the piano and played for several years for Bethany Beach Christian Church and Ocean View Presbyterian Church. He was an active member of the Ocean View CHEER Center, where he participated in the Parkinson Exercising Group every Thursday, and was also a member of the Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art in Salisbury, Md.
In addition to his parents, Harris was preceded in death by his son, Jason Harris; a brother, Eugene Harris, and a sister, Charlotte Leise. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Mary T. Harris; his stepchildren in New York, Kenneth Hettwer and his wife, Kimberly, Mary Ann Maxwell and her husband, Joseph, Kathryn Stack and her husband, Brian, and Michael Hettwer and his wife, Stephanie; nine grandchildren, Jessica, Kevin, Luke, Josh and Mikey Hettwer; Kelly and Kristen Maxwell; Kaelin Stack; and Conor Stack.
A Mass of Christian Burial was to be held at 11 a.m., with visitation at 10 a.m., on Friday, July 12, 2019, at St. Ann Catholic Church, 691 Garfield Parkway, Bethany Beach, Del. Interment will be Monday, July 29, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, Del.
