Operation SEAs the Day’s Warrior Beach Week — the six-day event in which 32 wounded veterans and their families are treated to a vacation at the beach — not only offers rest and relaxation for the families, it also offers the community many chances to give back to those who have served.

Poster Pal days will be held on July 16 and 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the South Coastal Library. Poster board and markers, as well as decorative materials, will be provided, according to Annette Reeping, publicity coordinator for Operation SEAs the Day.

Each year, volunteers produce more than 300 posters for the families, who often take the posters home with them as a way to remember their time at the beach. Reeping said the children of the Very Important Families are particularly fond of the posters. “They love them!” she said.

Reeping said volunteers are still needed in 12 areas for the week, including: Delivering water to activities; assisting with stand-up paddleboarding and kayaking; helping VIFs with boarding and returning from boat trips; organizing and packing food bags that are given to each family; truck and vans to transport packed food bags to the South Coastal Library on Labor Day; setting up tables and chairs for events, as well as breaking them down and storing them; selling merchandise at various locations; helping with the motorcade on Friday, Sept. 6; greeting and checking the list of attendees for the Fort Miles excursion; coordinating Poster Pal activities; assisting with media; and other activities that may arise.

Operation SEAs the Day’s volunteer website will open on July 15. At that time, anyone who is interested in volunteering can go to www.operationseastheday.org, open the “About: Volunteer Opportunities” section, review the 2019 needs and fill out the Volunteer Signup Sheet. The volunteer sign-up will be open until Aug. 15, Reeping said.

Throughout the summer, Operation SEAs the Day merchandise will be available for purchase at a number of locations, including: the Sea Colony Beach Shoppe in the Sea Colony Marketplace on Route 1; the Sea Crest beach shop on Garfield Parkway, near the boardwalk in Bethany Beach; the Sea Colony Farmers Market, each Wednesday from June 12 to Aug. 28; Giant Food in the Millville Town Center on Route 26, on July 13 and Aug. 10; the Freeman Stage vendor area on Friday, Sept. 6; the Cripple Creek Car Show on Sept. 7; and the Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival on Sept. 7 (at the bandstand).
