The Barefoot Gardeners Children’s Storytime visited Fenwick Island Town Hall on Wednesday, July 10, as 20 children participated in a meet-and-greet with Ranger Meghan Rhode from Assateague State Park, who introduced the children to several of her friends, including a box turtle, corn snake, screech owl, barred owl and a red-tailed hawk. The children were able to see the rescued animals up close, and hear about their habitats and behaviors.
It has been a busy July for the Barefoot Gardeners summer program, organizers noted. So far, events have included learning about the life cycle of the butterfly, cutting and tasting herbs from the garden, and beach safety. Upcoming events will include butterfly and gardening stories, a butterfly release, making caterpillar habitats, and collecting and tasting vegetables in the town garden. Events have run every Wednesday morning at 10 a.m. through the end of July, at the Fenwick Island gazebo.
