Thomas R. “Tom” McGrath Sr., 73, passed away on Monday, July 22, 2019. He was born in Wilmington, Del. to the late Joseph T. McGrath and Rita J. (Denver) McGrath.
McGrath earned his master plumbing and heating license from Brown Vocational in 1968, and was owner and operator of McGrath Plumbing & Heating Company for 44 years.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and boating, and he shared his passions with each of his children and grandchildren throughout the years. He also shared his adventures with his two best friends, Jack Birch and Terry Sloan, whom he regarded as his brothers. McGrath was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate spirit. He will be greatly missed.
McGrath is survived by his wife of 44 years, Edna A. (Leski) McGrath; his children, Maureen Cathell and her husband, Thomas, Mark West McGrath, Kellyanne Bowden and her partner, Andrew Andrea, and Thomas R. McGrath Jr. and his partner, Jennifer Wright; his grandchildren, Courtney Malec and her husband, Roman, Zachary Cullen, Logan Bowden, Trevor Bowden, Bailee Bowden, Olivia McGrath, Khloe McGrath, Lucas, Elaina and Logan; his sister, Dorothy McGrath Lechmanik; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial Mass was scheduled for Aug. 1, 2019, at St. Ann Catholic Church in Bethany Beach, Del. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial donations to Delaware Hospice; 100 Patriots Way; Milford, DE 19963. Condolences may be sent online at www.melsonfuneralservices.com.
