Nancy P. Resende, 67, an Alexandria, Va., resident since 1981, died near her Old Town Alexandria home on July 31, 2019. She was born Jan. 13, 1952, in Charleston, W.Va., raised in the Pike Creek Valley area of suburban Wilmington, Del., and a 1969 graduate of John Dickinson High School.
After graduating in 1973 from Madison College (now James Madison University/JMU) with her high school sweetheart and husband, Joe, Resende moved to the Washington, D.C., area, where she taught elementary school in Calvert County, Md., for 25 years.
In addition to her devotion to family and friends — whom she loved entertaining at her Bethany Beach summer home — her passions included golfing, running and cooking. She was a member of Mount Vernon Country Club (Alexandria), Cripple Creek Golf & Country Club (near Bethany Beach) and Naples (Fla.) Grade Golf Club.
Resende is survived by her husband; two brothers, Samuel S. Park Jr. and David Park; her sisters-in-law; Joe’s mother, Rose Resende; several nieces and nephews, and their spouses; and a growing number of great-nieces and great-nephews.
In lieu of flowers, she requested memorial donations to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the Pediatric PANDAS Network.
