CHEER Beach Day returns after hiatus

Plans are progressing for the return of CHEER’s Beach Day in Rehoboth on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. All activities are free to the public.

There will be a Health Fair at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. where health care agencies and businesses can spotlight their services and products. Any agency or company that wishes to participate in the Health Fair and has not received information can contact Carolyn O’Neal at carolyno@cheerde.com, or call (302) 515-3044.

Various entertainments will be staged at the boardwalk bandstand from 10:30 until 1:30 p.m.

CHEER buses will provide shuttle transportation to and from the convention center and the bandstand. A nutritious lunch will be offered to seniors 60 or older, available at the convention center.

A highlight of the day will be the Beach Day Stroll, beginning at 10 a.m., in which walkers can obtain sponsors in support of their efforts. Sponsorship forms are available at all CHEER activity centers or by calling (302) 515-3044.

All proceeds from the Health Fair, Beach Stroll and sponsors will benefit CHEER’s Cooking for Seniors Capital Campaign to build a new central kitchen that will have the capacity in which to prepare more than 1,700 meals per day to feed senior citizens in Sussex County. Local businesses that are already on board for Beach Day are WSFS, Delmarva Power, Delaware Electric Coop and United Healthcare.

After a three-year hiatus, the senior-citizen event is returning to Rehoboth Beach. The non-profit agency was forced to postpone the event because of remodeling construction at its event venue, the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. For the past three years, seniors have been entertained in the fall with CHEER’s Frontier Festival in Georgetown. This year, construction is finished and Beach Day is back in Rehoboth. The Frontier Festival has been rescheduled for May 1, 2020.

Sponsorship opportunities are available in combination for both events, or for individual events. More than 1,000 seniors congregate on Rehoboth Beach for Beach Day and more than 500 seniors come to Georgetown for the Frontier Festival. For more information about sponsorships, contact O’Neal at (302) 515-3044.
