John Henry Bamberger, 86, of Rehoboth Beach, Del., formerly of Baltimore, Md., passed away, surrounded by his loving family, on Friday, Aug. 9, 2019, at his home. He was born Dec. 18, 1932, in Lebanon, Pa., son of the late Irvin Bamberger and Hattie Mae (Henry) Bamberger.
Bamberger graduated from the University of Virginia with a bachelor’s degree in architecture. He owned and operated his own architectural firm in Baltimore, John H. Bamberger Architects, before working for the State of Maryland as a project architect and then retiring in 2005.
He was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach; the American Institute of Architects; and the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed boating, woodworking and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Bamberger was preceded in death by his first wife, Helen E. (Ebur) Bamberger, in 1988. He is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Saundra M. (Lewandroski) Bamberger; three sons, Barrett and his wife, Teresa, of Cincinnati, Ohio, Bradford of Rehoboth Beach, and Stephen and his wife, Pamela, of Hampstead, Md.; his grandchildren, Amanda Sipe and her husband, Andrew, Samantha Bamberger, Aaron Bamberger and Abigail Bamberger; two stepsons, Mark Sowder and his wife, Teresa, of Towson, Md., and Leonard Sowder of Rehoboth Beach; and his step-grandchildren, Jack Sowder and Emily Sowder.
Services and burial were to be private.
