U.S. Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.) this week highlighted the Sept. 6 deadline for applications to intern in his Delaware and Washington, D.C., offices.
The paid internship program in Carper’s office is an opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain experience in a professional setting, participate in the legislative process and experience democracy at work. Interns may also have the chance to attend events such as press conferences, congressional hearings and votes on the Senate floor.
“An internship in a congressional office offers an inside look at the political process and an opportunity to gain valuable professional experience working with constituents and Senate staffers,” Carper said. “I encourage all eager and hard-working college students or recent graduates — especially those from the First State — to apply before the Sept. 6 deadline!”
Candidates should possess strong writing and research skills and a demonstrated interest in American politics and policy, he said. Preference will be given to applicants from Delaware. Internships are available in the Washington, D.C., Wilmington, Dover and Georgetown offices.
