One might think that Labor Day weekend saw the end of significant families coming to our beautiful coastal oasis. One would be wrong.
This week sees the influx of 35 Very Important Families to the area — families chosen by organizers of Operation SEAs the Day to experience a dream vacation in Bethany Beach during Warrior Beach Week, officially running from Sept. 3 to Sept. 8.
The families will enjoy a week that will afford them the opportunity to enjoy any number of activities, including horseback riding, deep-sea fishing, a spa day and a special screening of the movie “Frozen” for their children. There will also be cookouts and bonfires, giving the families the chance to mingle amongst one another. All of these activities, by the way, are free of charge for the families, as local businesses and individuals have donated them, along with gift certificates to local restaurants. Pretty cool, right?
What’s even more cool is that all of us can help give these extraordinary families a lasting memory. On Friday, Sept. 6, the Warrior families will be treated to a “Bruce in the USA” Bruce Springsteen tribute show at the Freeman Stage. They will get there via a parade that will take them in buses from the Sea Colony Marketplace to the Stage. The plan is to leave Sea Colony at 4:45 p.m., and this is where we come in.
We can all line that parade route. We can fill the Marketplace parking lot, and we can wave flags, hold signs and generally thank them the entire route. Let’s give them the memories of this place that they deserve. Let’s show them who we are.
