Bernadette ‘Bernie’ Hopkins Allsop, 72

Bernadette “Bernie” Hopkins Allsop, 72, of Lewes, Del., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2019, in the extraordinary care of Seasons Hospice and her loving family. She was born on Jan. 3, 1947, to the late Mary and Horace Hopkins.

She married Robert G. “Bob” Allsop on Jan. 6, 1968, in Wilmington, Del. She enjoyed reading, animals, the Eagles, the news and her cherished cat, Sasha. She will be most remembered for her love of family, her advice, and her straightforward and funny personality.

Allsop was preceded in death by Bob, the love of her life and husband of 47 years. Together they raised two children, Robert Allsop Jr. and Kimberly (Allsop) Dischler; thoroughly enjoyed having three grandchildren, Dylan Kane, Brooke Kane and Heather Allsop; and two step-grandchildren, Chelsey Dischler and Cyle Dischler. She initially spent her married life in Philadelphia before moving back to Delaware with her family.

She also leaves behind her son-in-law, Steve Dischler; her siblings, Helen Dean, Betty Lou Burgess and her husband, John, Dru Abrams and her husband, Eddie, James Dryden and his wife, Joanne, Sonny Hopkins; and her grandchildren, nieces and nephew.

She will be deeply missed by her children and grandchildren, all of whom she adored. She also had close relationships with her siblings and their families. She was particularly joined at the hip with her sisters, Helen, Betty Lou and Dru.

The family thanked the staff of Seasons Hospice for their compassion and care during her illness.

A memorial service will be held at noon, with visitation starting at 11 a.m., on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019, at the Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street, Millsboro, Del. Interment will be private at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
