Local author to speak to Millsboro book club
Local author B.B. Shamp, who wrote the new suspense novel “The Grist Mill Bone,” as well as other books, will speak to members of the book club sponsored by Friends of the Library, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, at the Millsboro Public Library.
Shamp will discuss the book, set on Delmarva, which weaves historical events from the Maryland Eastern Shore with fictitious happenings and sprinkled with colloquial dialogue.
The tone of the novel will “endear the reader with the small town it creates and remind the reader of persons they know or may have met,” according to a news release from the Friends.
Shamp has won awards for her work, including her first book, “Third Haven,” which received first place from the National Federation of Press Women and the Delaware Press Association. “Third Haven” is the prequel to “The Grist Mill Bone.” The last book of the trilogy, “The Oxford Settlement,” will be available in fall 2020.
The Delaware Press Association recognized “The Grist Mill Bone” as a second-place winner in the adult novel category. It has also been selected as a finalist for the da Vinci Eye Award, a literary and artistic international recognition.
Shamp’s debut novel, “Third Haven, A Novel of Deceit,” won first place with the National Federation of Press Women in 2016. Her short story “The Sotweed Legacy” was recognized by the Delmarva Review literary contest, Chesapeake Voices, in 2017.
The book club meets on the second Tuesday of each month at 2 p.m. New members are welcome to attend.
