Ellsworth Franklin ‘Buddy’ Harbaugh Jr., 76

Ellsworth Franklin “Buddy” Harbaugh Jr., 76, loving husband and father, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, He was born in Pittsburg, Pa., on Sept. 22, 1943, to Ellsworth Franklin Harbaugh and Marion Wilson Harbaugh.

Harbaugh was a graduate of Goldey Beacom College. He worked as a recruiter for the National Guard, serving from 1978 to 1997.

On Aug. 19, 1967, he married his love, Deborah Lee Mitchell. They raised one daughter, Heather Nicole Harbaugh Warburton, and many beloved pets.

Harbaugh had a passion for playing poker, competing in national tournaments from Atlantic City to Las Vegas. He could always be found at weekly poker games with longtime friends. While he served in the military, he was loved by his soldiers, who affectionately knew him as “Sarge.”

Throughout his life, he also enjoyed playing golf, boating and fishing. He was a car enthusiast, especially for his much-loved Corvettes. He will be remembered for his sense of humor and quickness with a joke. He loved making people laugh, and his larger-than-life, gregarious personality never failed to entertain. He was a natural salesman and took great pleasure in both buying and selling as long as he got a deal, which he usually did.

Harbaugh was preceded in death by his father, his mother and his sister Laura “Lolly.” He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughter, Heather; and sister Judy.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at 1 p.m. at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, Del. Condolences may be sent online at www.melsonfuneralservices.com.
