John Theodore ‘Ted’ Fort Sr., 89

John Theodore ‘Ted’ Fort Sr., 89, of Milton, Del., passed away on Thursday, Oct. 3, 2019, surrounded by his family at home. He was born on Jan. 25, 1930, in Washington, D.C., son of the late John Henry and Nettie Viola Fort.

Fort was a proud U.S. Navy veteran, having served in the Korean War and retiring as chief petty officer after 20 dedicated years. His patriotism and service to country continued for another 20 years through his civilian career with the Navy.

He was a member of the Improved Order of Red Men, Indian River Tribe 37 and a past Great Sachem. Fort had many interests, including antique cars, anything to do with the U.S. Navy, and the Red Men. Above all, he was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Fort was preceded in death by his son, James Bryan Fort; and his siblings, Harry Fort, James Fort, Patricia Roach and Viola Smith. He is survived by his beloved wife, Shirley Ann Fort of Milton; his sons, John T. Fort Jr. and his wife, Irma, of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Kenny Fort of Wells Tannery, Pa.; his daughters, Geri L. Cahill and her husband, Kevin, of Milton, and Joyce A. Fort of Fort Washington, Md.; his daughter-in-law, Karen Fort of Millsboro, Del.; his grandchildren, Christian Cahill, Jeremy Cahill, Sean Cahill, Ami Hughes, Erik Fort, Teddy Fort and Tiffany Fort; his six great-grandchildren; his sister, Jeannie Holtery and her husband, Mike, of Lusby, Md.; and his brother-in-law, Jerry Smith of Lusby.

Chapel committal services will be held on Friday, Oct. 11, 2019, at 10 a.m. at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, Del. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, in Lewes, Del.
