Frankford Fall Festival to feature costume parade, food

Don’t be alarmed by the scary clowns and grim reapers walking around Frankford this weekend.

They’re probably just heading for the Frankford Fall Festival, an annual event sponsored by Envision Frankford that includes a costume parade and much more.

The Frankford Fall Festival starts at the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company, with parade registration at 10:30 a.m. Costume judging then takes place from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., followed by the costume parade, which starts at the fire hall and ends at Frankford Town Park, according to Envision Frankford President Robbie Murray.

“From noon to 3 p.m. there are festivities at the park,” Murray said. Those include hay-wagon rides, a moon bounce, a “smoke house” educational exhibit provide by the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company, a bicycle and pedestrian safety program, and smoke detector giveaways, he said. “Target practice” with a fire hose is a popular event at the festival, Murray said.

The winners of the costume contest will be announced at the park at 12:15 p.m. Winners in the Under 2 and Age 3-4 age groups will be chosen in categories of Funniest, Most Original, Best Princess or Prince, and Best Cartoon Character. For the Ages 5-6, Ages 7-9 and Ages 10-12 groups, winners will be chosen for the Scariest, Most Original, Most Realistic and Funniest costumes.

The Frankford Fall Festival is a result of the combined efforts of Envision Frankford, in cooperation with the Town of Frankford, the Frankford Volunteer Fire Company, the Frankford Public Library and area churches, Murray said. The churches and the library will sponsor games for children during the events at the park.

Door prizes and a 50/50 drawing will be held at the park, with winners announced at 2:30 p.m.

Also on hand will be a food truck from Hocker’s, offering hamburgers, hotdogs and french fries. Rita’s Ice will be on hand with frozen treats, Murray said.

Although there is no rain date for the Frankford Fall Festival, in the case of inclement weather, the costume contest will be held indoors at the fire hall, he said.

While numerous groups are contributing to the fall festival, Murray said a core group of about 20 volunteers have been working together to make the festival fun for everyone.

“We hope to see everybody there,” he said of the event.

The Frankford Volunteer Fire Company is located at 7 Main Street, Frankford. Frankford Town Park is located near the intersection of Clayton Avenue and Hickory Street.
