Robert N. Cooke, 91
Robert N. Cooke, 91, of Harbeson, Del., passed away at home, surrounded by his loving family on Friday, Oct. 25, 2019. He was born in Chester, Pa., on Jan. 30, 1928, son of the late William Joseph Cooke Sr. and the late Mary Jane Victor (Kerr) Cooke.
Cooke proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps just after World War II, as an aircraft mechanic. He also served in the Merchant Marines. He worked for General Motors for 39 years before his retirement. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Lewes, Del.; a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus Star of the Sea Council 7297 in Rehoboth Beach, Del.; and a member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians in Ocean City, Md.
In addition to his parents, seven brothers and two sisters, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ethel M. Cooke, in 2015 and a son, Robert N. Cooke Jr., in 2006. He is survived by his three sons, Charles “Gus” Cooke and his wife, Michele, of North Wilmington, Del., William Cooke and his wife, Lisa, of Smyrna, Del., and George Cooke and his wife, Colleen, of Harbeson; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
A committal service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2019, in the chapel of the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro, Del. Condolences may be sent online at www.melsonfuneralservices.com.
