Millville Holiday Market to offer homemade gifts, more

Once again this year, the Millville Holiday Market will offer so many gifts and goodies that they won’t all fit in one building.

The annual holiday craft bazaar will be held Saturday, Dec. 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Crafters will set up at Millville Town Hall, as well as in the Millville United Methodist Church’s community building, across Club House Road from town hall.

In addition to tables filled with handmade goods, the market will feature raffles of gift baskets and prizes provided by local businesses. Raffle tickets will cost $1 each or $5 for six tickets.

All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated to Southern Delaware Therapeutic Riding in Milton. The riding school provides equine-assisted therapy for children and adults living with disabilities. Millville Town Manager Deborah Botchie said her granddaughter Charlotte has benefitted greatly from her experiences there.

“She starts to squeal and giggle” upon entering the driveway at the riding school, Botchie said. “They’re looking to expand their operation,” she added.

Last year’s raffles raised $800 for Ronald McDonald House.

Botchie said that, this year, the market changed its criteria a bit, to reflect an emphasis on strictly handmade goods. The change has allowed the market to welcome some new faces.

“We have a lot of new, very talented artisans,” Botchie said.

New this year will be a food truck outside the market from Top Five BBQ Bakery, “in case all that shopping makes you hungry,” Botchie said.

Next year will bring big changes to Millville’s holiday celebration, as the community building in the new town park will have been completed. At 4,000 square feet, Botchie said the building will be able to accommodate more than twice the number of shoppers and crafters as the town hall and the church facility combined.

In addition, the Town is planning other future holiday celebrations, including a tree-lighting, Botchie said.

“Next year will be a whole different ballgame,” she said.

Millville Town Hall and the Millville United Methodist Church are located at 36404 and 36405 Club House Road in Millville. Parking will be available at Millville United Methodist Church.
