Bethany Beach First Responders Sports Weekend announced for 2020

The annual Bethany Beach First Responders Sports Weekend will take place on Sept. 19 and 20. This year’s event will consist of a half-marathon and half-marathon relay on Sunday and a 10K and 5K on Saturday.

Challenge runs will also be available for those who would like to compete on both days and earn an additional Challenge medal.

The event will continue to have the after-party, sponsored by Zoca Mexican Restaurant, NKS Distributors and Giant Foods—Millville.

Organizers noted that the traditional USAT triathlon-duathlon-aquabike events are going on vacation for 2020.

“We were thrilled to bring the Sports Weekend back to Bethany Beach, where all of this started back in 2012,” said Race Director and co-founder Ernie Felici.”

The weekend-long series of events is a RRCA and USATF event, produced by Focus Multisports. Proceeds from the weekend will benefit Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Company (BBVFC) and first-responders, as well as other area non-profits.

“The town and its residents support us unconditionally, and we are therefore elated to give back to the firefighters and other first-responders,” said Race Director and co-founder Rick Hundley.

“We are very pleased,” said Bethany Beach Volunteer Fire Chief Brian Martin of the event’s donations to date “and look forward to another great event in 2020.”
