BREAKING NEWS: Frankford approves sale of water plant to Artesian

Frankford's Town Council voted unanimously at its Monday, Feb. 3, meeting to accept a proposal from the Artesian Water Co. to purchase its water plant and connect Frankford's 350 water customers to Artesian's growing network in Sussex County.

The Middletown-based company will purchase the plant for $3.6 million and will begin the process of updating the town's water meters and pipes.

Artesian representatives have said at a series of meetings with town residents and business owners that water rates will stay the same for a year and that after that, most users' rates will decrease. Frankford will be connected to Artesian's existing network via a connection facility currently under construction on Armory Road near Dagsboro.

As it begins its budget process for the upcoming year, the council will be focusing on how to utilize the income from the sale of the water plant, with two possibilities being hiring a second police officer and hiring a town manager.
