Governor Jack Markell announced this week that he has asked Lieutenant Governor Matt Denn to head the state's new Workers' Compensation Task Force created by HJR3, established by the General Assembly and Governor to address the 26% increase in average workers compensation rates over the last two years.

Dover -- Early this morning, several hundred crew members from the Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) were out on key roadways putting down salt. This morning's forecast is for up to four inches of accumulation in Kent and Sussex Counties, and a bit less in New Castle County. Snow appears heaviest in the Dover area, but the storm is expected to taper off this morning.

DOVER (Jan. 31, 2013) - With recycling services now available to every Delaware resident, all commercial businesses and institutions will also be participating soon in the state's comprehensive recycling program.

Beginning February 1st, the Governor's Office, Children's Department, the Department of Health and Social Services and the Delaware Libraries will begin using Twitter, Facebook, YouTube and Flickr to launch a month-long donation effort to the children at the Terry Center.

Wilmington -- With the completion of the first phase of the Rodney Square Beautification project, DART will adjust bus route boarding locations along King Street. Beginning Monday, February 11, 2013, select bus routes will resume serving the King Street side of Rodney Square, and route-specific boarding locations along King Street will be adjusted to better distribute the number of passengers at any given stop. The King Street side of Rodney Square, which has been closed since July 2012, will reopen and be served by Routes 4, 5, 19, 30, 33, 34, 36, 39, 40, 41, 42, 54 and 55.

DOVER (Jan. 30, 2013) - DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife Enforcement officers recently rescued a deer that had fallen through the ice on Milford's Haven Lake. Officers used the bow of a small boat to break ice and get close to the struggling doe, then "herded" the deer through the open water channel they had made back to shore.

Vaccinations are offered through physician offices, and many pharmacies and grocery stores. DPH is also expanding vaccination opportunities at public health clinics.

NEWARK (Jan. 30, 2013) - Federal, state, city and school officials gathered this morning at Newark High School to kick off a citywide anti-idling awareness campaign for cleaner air, better health and savings at the gas pump.

Next fall, nearly 1000 kindergarteners and first graders will be enrolled in Governor Markell's World Language Expansion Initiative.

According to the CDC, this virus strain is currently the leading cause of norovirus outbreaks in the US. The new type was first identified in Australia in 2012. While this type is new to the United States, it is not known to be more virulent then other similar strains of G11.4 identified here.

On Saturday, February 2, 2013 an estimated 250 children from local low-income families will receive free dental services ranging from screenings to dental restorations as part of the 10th Annual Give Kids A Smile Day held nationwide. The all-day event will be held in two Delaware locations; the Dental Group, 34359 Carpenter's Way, Lewes, and Dental Associates of Delaware, 1415 Foulk Road, Suite 200, Wilmington.

Nominations for the Governor's Outstanding Youth Volunteer Service Awards are now being accepted by the State Office of Volunteerism.

These awards recognize the important contributions that Delaware's volunteers, 18 and younger, make to their communities through volunteerism. Award recipients will be honored at a special ceremony in April.

Two bills that implement components to combat bullying were signed by Governor Jack Markell at George V. Kirk Middle School in Newark.
