Annual boat parade to cruise through Hollywood
The Fenwick Island Yacht Club is inviting all seaworthy sailors and vessels to participate in their sixth annual Boat Parade on Saturday, July 30, at 5:30 p.m. Thematically-decorated boats will meet at Seal Island and will follow a course in the canals of Fenwick Island. All vessels, from boats to kayaks, are welcome to sail in the parade. This year’s boat parade theme is “Hollywood Meets the Sea.”
FIYC member Gail Warburton said people can decorate their boat as any television program or movie relating to the sea.
“The more the merrier!” Warburton said. “I think people have started to look forward to it.”
FIYC member Sue Clark said the parade is a very family-oriented event, especially in decorating the watercraft. Last year, her grandson even picked the theme.
“We keep it casual, and it’s lots of fun,” said Clark.
The parade will begin at 5:30 p.m., and last around an hour. Spectators can also attend to cheer for their favorite boat. Prizes will be awarded.
Participants will meet at Seal Island in the Little Assawoman Bay. The parade will begin on the east side of Schultz Road, continue toward Dagsboro Street, proceed south through the larger canals between Bayard Street, loop westward toward the bay, pass Catch 54 and Harpoon Hannah’s restaurants and finish at the north end of Schultz Road.
There is no cost to attend, but participants should register before the event. Anyone who would like to enter a boat, kayak or any other watercraft can contact Gail Warburton at (302) 539-6467.
