Bus collision closes Route 610 on Tuesday

Maryland Route 610, southwest of Selbyville, was closed for several hours on Tuesday, Jan. 3, when a tour bus rear-ended a car. Maryland State Police said they responded to the call at 4:05 p.m. and found the incident on Route 610 east of Peerless Road, which is 2.5 miles west of Route 113.

Police said both vehicles were traveling eastbound when Daniel Elton Nelson, 27, slowed to turn his 2004 Honda Civic left into a driveway. A 1998 Blue Bird tour bus failed to reduce its speed to avoid collision, striking the Honda in the right rear, they said.

Roger Coston Hornsby, 67, was driving the Holloway Transit and Tours bus, transporting 24 employees of Mountaire from Salisbury, Md., to Selbyville.

A dozen of the bus passengers and both drivers were treated for minor injuries at Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin, Md., and released, police said.

Charges were pending mid-week, and no details had been released as to underlying factors that might have contributed to the accident.

Numerous emergency responders from Selbyville and Worcester County, Md., attended the scene, which affected and diverted traffic on Route 610 for three hours.
