County approves rezoning of Route 54 property to CR-1

The Sussex County Council this week approved the rezoning of 2.1185 acres of land at the southwest corner of Route 54 and Road 396 (Westline Road) from a combination of AR-1 (Agricultural-Residential) and C-1 (General Commercial) to being zoned entirely as CR-1 (Commercial-Residential).

In approving the application for rezoning of the property of James Moses, the council cited the recommendation by Planning & Zoning commissioners that they approve the application. Councilman Vance Phillips added that he believed the change to CR-1 would actually help with density at an already crowded intersection.

The council on Feb. 14 also held a public hearing concerning conditional use of land southeast of Route 16 but deferred any action so they could research any conditions that might be placed on the property.

The council also voted on Tuesday to approve a grant request for Changing Fates Equine Rescue of Delaware, for the rehabilitation of horses.
