Dolores S. ‘Snookie’ Saunders, 88

Dolores S. “Snookie” Saunders, 88, of Millsboro, Del., passed away on Monday, Jan. 1, 2018, while surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Wilmington, Del., on Oct. 30, 1929, daughter of the late Wilmer Sutherlan and Loretta (Cregg) Sutherlan. She graduated from Wilmington High School and from Goldey-Beacom College, where she was a member of several sororities.

Saunders retired from work as a secretary with the DuPont Company in Wilmington. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and also served as the president of the Resident Council at Renaissance Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Millsboro, where she had been a resident for the last six years.

In addition to her parents, Saunders was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy “Lee” Saunders, in 1993. She is survived by her caregiver and cousin, Christine Oliphant, and her two daughters, Megan and Mindi Oliphant; her cousins, Lynn Anderson, Carole Leach, Barbara Hoover and Judy Apolico; and two godsons, William Anderson III and Mark Conaway.

A service was scheduled for Jan. 9, 2018, at the chapel of Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro, Del. Arrangements were by Melson Funeral Services. Condolences may be sent online at www.melsonfuneralservices.com.
