Editorial: DMV continues to improve its service game

The Delaware Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is a bit of an anomoly.

It is a rare example of government efficiency, as well as a shining star amongst motor-vehicle departments across these fruited plains. Walking into one, particularly the Georgetown facility, is entering a bureacratic workplace that actually works. In many states, a trip to the DMV is an all-day affair with the potential to turn your low blood pressure high. In Georgetown, you are often in and out in as long as it takes to get your problem solved.

That’s efficiency.

The DMV issued a press release earlier this week that illustrates how they continue to strive for higher efficiency as a department. They are now offering online driver license and ID card renewals, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“Our DMV continues to expand its services to ensure that we are serving our customers in a manner that is modern and most convenient for them,” said Secretary of Transportation Jennifer Cohan. “I frequently hear from satisfied customers, which is a great testament to our employees, which is why Delaware has the best DMV in the country!”

We know for certain that it’s efficient, and that makes it a rare gem. By having some of these services online, that promises to streamline things in the building even more.
