They jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning over the Latin America squad from Maunabo, Puerto Rico, during their Senior League Softball World Series game in Roxana on Monday, Aug. 4.

It kind of went downhill from there, as Latin America used a nine-run second inning to spur them to a 15-3 win.

Luz Feliciano hit two home runs for Latin America, including a three-run blast in that second inning, to power Latin America to the win.

The Europe-Africa team did get off to a good start in their first at-bats of the game. Kamilia Bilinska drew a one-out walk to get their rally started, and she came around to break the ice on an error. Klaudia Rudyk later doubled-in Katarzyna Tokarz and Maja Zmyslona, to open up the lead to 3-0 over Latin America pitcher Ninoshka Ortiz. Those were the only runs Ortiz would allow on that day.

Latin America responded with their next turn at bat. Ashley Brito reached base on an error and eventually came around on a fielder’s choice. A single by Naitzir Westerband a few at-bats later plated Milka Ortiz and Jenifer Morales, to tie the game at 3-3. Feliciano followed with a three-run blast to right-center to give Latin America a 6-3 lead, and Brito delivered another three-run homer a few batters later, to open up the lead to 9-3.

Latin America picked up five more runs in the top of the fourth inning.

Angelis Perez knocked in Gabriela Guzman with a single, and Brito came around to score on a single by Milka Ortiz, to push the score to 11-3. Nashally Rivera singled home Perez a few batters later, and two more runs scored on an error, to open it up to 14-3 by the time the inning ended.

Feliciano opened the fifth inning with a solo home run to finish the day’s scoring at 15-3, and the game was called after five innings.
