Hilda Achilles-Child, 92

Hilda Achilles-Child, 92, of Millville, Del., passed away peacefully Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Cadbury at Lewes in Lewes, Del.

Born in Sussex County on Feb. 20, 1920, Achilles-Child was a telephone operator in her early years and later retired from the U.S. Postal Service. She was known as a great homemaker, cook, mother, grandmother and friend who brightened many lives. She was remembered for her warmth, sense of humor and smile.

Achilles-Child was preceded in death by her parents, Sara and Elwood Workman; husbands Leroy Achilles and Jerry Child; two sisters, Thelma Richardson and Gladys McCabe; and a brother, Preston Workman. She is survived by a brother, Ralph Workman; sister-in-law, Ruth Workman; sister, Kathleen Bryan; children, Art Achilles, Brad Achilles, Clark Achilles and his wife, Carol, and Dawn Smith and her husband, Charlie; a granddaughter, Hanna Achilles; and many extended family members and friends.

A funeral service was scheduled for Monday, March 19, 2012, at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington Street in Millsboro, Del. Interment was to follow at Millsboro Cemetery.
