That night’s high school basketball battle between Delmar High School’s Wildcats and Indian River’s Indians had to be canceled. The make-up game was played last Thursday night, Dec. 21, at IR’s home gym in Dagsboro.

IR controlled the game from beginning to end, when the teams were separated by 12-points. The Indians’ 73-61 win over Delmar is their third win of the season, giving them a 3-4 record for the season thus far.

IR sank the first basket with the clock at 7:41 minutes. From there, IR got a small early 8-0 run on the Wildcats. After the first eight minutes of play, IR had a very comfortable 20-point lead over Delmar. Each team scored 10 points in the second eight minutes, giving IR a 30-16 advantage at halftime.

“They now have two victories in a row, so we’re kind of getting something going here this year coming and in the next half of the season,” said IR head coach B.J. Joseph. “I want to see it keep going.”

Indian Jamier Felton was the game’s high-scorer, with 27-points. Also in the double digits for IR were Ja’Shaun Johnson with 12 and Antonio Jones with 10.

The team had an intermission in their holiday break, taking on the Governor’s Challenge and Queen Anne’s County (Md.) High School in Salisbury, Md., on Dec. 26-27. They’ll resume regular play on Jan. 3, 2018, at Sussex Academy, with a 6:15 p.m. start time, followed by a Jan. 5 game at Cape Henlopen at 6:30 p.m.
