'It's like furniture for your windows'
Just in time for fall and the second half of hurricane season, there is a new shutter and blind business in the area — Delaware Shutter Inc. The shop is run by Garret Layton, son of Mary Ann of Mary Ann’s Interiors in Ocean View, and his partner, Debbie Fuchs.
Layton has run the window treatment department at Mary Ann’s Interiors for the past 10 years. At his new place, they offer interior and exterior shutters and blinds and exterior storm shutters. They offer a full line of Hunter Douglas and Norman shutters and Bahamas-style hurricane shutters.
They also offer a free in-home consultation.
Layton said the location right off of Route 26 on Holt’s Landing Road has proved to be very convenient and accessible for potential clients. The business of blinds and shutters, he said, is like an art.
“It’s like furniture for your windows,” he said.
They use a Hunter Douglas-certified installer, and all installations are free.
Fuchs added that they have a full line of interior blinds — honeycomb blinds, faux wood and hardwood blinds, roman shades, verticals and porch shades.
They also offer Lexan panels, which are a Plexiglas alternative to plywood for protecting windows in hurricane-prone areas. With a small track is installed above and below the windows, the panels, which are easily stored, can slide right in over the windows, in preparation for a storm. They also offer solutions for sliding glass doors.
All orders are custom made to order.
Delaware Shutter Inc. is open Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and on weekends by appointment. For more information, visit www.delawareshutter.com or look for delawareshuttercompanyllc on Facebook. They can be reached by phone at 537-6900.
