John Joseph Nangle, 83

John Joseph Nangle, 83, of Bethany Beach, Del., passed away on Tuesday, April 23, 2012, at home, surrounded by his family.

Born Jan. 15, 1929, in St. Louis, Mo., Nangle graduated from Georgetown University and served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army infantry during the Korean War. He graduated from St. Louis University Law School and was a member of the Missouri, District of Columbia and American Bar Associations. During his early career, he was president of Utilities Insurance Company of St. Louis and Preferred Fire Insurance Company of Topeka. For most of his career, he was the Washington, D.C., counsel for National Association of Independent Insurers (now known as Property Casualty Insurers Association of America).

Nangle was preceded in death by his parents, John J. Nangle and Mary Kathryn (McKenna) Nangle; his sister, Mary Kathryn (Nangle) Schmieder; and his brothers, Richard and Thomas Nangle. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Carol (Linn) Nangle of Bethany Beach; five children, Carol Ann (Nangle) McMahon, Gail (Nangle) Silverberg, Linn (Nangle) Murphey, and John and Michael Nangle; and nine grandchildren, Ryan, Mary Kathryn “Katie,” McShane, McKenna, McCaeyla, Patrick, Olivia, Finnegan and Rowan.
