Lola M. Wood, 92
Lola M. Wood, 92 of Lewes, Del., passed away Monday, May 21, 2012, at her home.
She was born Jan. 8, 1920, in Berlin, Pa., to the late Herman and Mary (Tipton) Heffley. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wood Jr., in 1968; two brothers, Donald and Robert Heffley; and three sisters, Vera Heffley, Nora Behn and Faye Regan.
After graduating from McKinley Technical High School in Washington, D.C., Wood was employed with the A.P. Woodson Oil Company in Washington, where she met the love of her life, Charles “Chubby” Wood Jr. She also worked with her brother in the family business, Heffley’s Printing & Supplies in Washington. In 1985 she retired from her position as director of Orientation and Lock Boxes for the Montgomery County Board of Realtors.
Wood was an avid bingo player who rarely missed a game, as it made her week fly by, said her family. Wood loved cruising around in her PT Cruiser and dabbling in arts and crafts. She was known for her wicked sense of humor. She loved all animals, especially her canine companion Shyann.
Wood is survived by her daughter Patricia Linthicum and her husband, Roger Linthicum Sr., of Lewes, Del., and the Outer Banks, N.C.; three grandchildren, Kristen Werner and Dave Johnson of Georgetown, Del., Roger Linthicum Jr. and his wife, Theresa, of Nova Scotia, Canada, and Keith Linthicum and Gina Creel of Silver Spring, Md.; one brother, Roy Heffley of Washington; one sister, Mary Lou Koch and her husband, Dick, of Rehoboth Beach, Del., and Bethesda, Md.; and many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends.
All services were to be private, with arrangements by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium in Lewes, Del., through which condolences may be sent online at www.parsellfuneralhomes.com.
