Mary Edith Farlow, 99, of Selbyville, Del., died Friday, Dec. 29, 2017, at Coastal Hospice at the Lake in Salisbury, Md. She was born in Showell, Md., daughter of the late Calvin D. Gumm Sr. and Mary A. (Murray) Gumm.

She had retired from work as a teacher from Indian River School District and was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Selbyville, Del., and the Daughters of the American Colonists (DAC).

Farlow was preceded in death by her husband, Carroll B. Farlow, in 1998, and daughter, Diane Collins, in 2003. She is survived by a son, C. Dale Farlow of Selbyville; two daughters, Deborah F. Shockley and her husband, Ralph, of Salisbury, and Denise F. Beam and her husband, Eric, of Ocean View, Del.; a son-in-law, John Collins of Ocean City, Md.; a brother-in-law, John Farlow of Selbyville; seven grandchildren, Kathie Collins, Mark Collins, Matt Collins, Mike Shockley, Chris Shockley, Lauren Ottenhoff and Luke Beam; and nine great-grandchildren.

A funeral service was scheduled for Jan. 4, 2018, at Bishop-Hastings Funeral Home, with the Rev. Al Taylor officiating and burial at Red Men’s Cemetery, both in Selbyville, Del.
