Meehan powers Central to 14-0 win over District III

Chris Clark : District 3 pitcher Elisha Marks (12).Taylor Meehan blasted three home runs to lead USA Central to a 14-0 win over the host District III team from Seaford during the Senior League Softball World Series in Roxana on Monday, Aug. 4.

Mackenzie Shields got things going Central (South Bend, Ind.) with a one-out single in the top of the first, before coming around to score on a groundout by Jordyn Westphal. Meehan then blasted a two-out home run to center to extend the lead to 2-0.

Following a scoreless frame for District III in the bottom half of the first, Central opened up the game in the second inning.

Dezaray Watts led off with a bunt single and eventually came around to score on a bases-loaded bunt by Alyssa Gutierrez. Shields bunted home Ashton Woods, to open the score up to 4-0, and an error and a wild pitch made it 6-0 before Meehand blasted her second home run in as many innings, to extend the Central lead to 8-0.

Megan Bonk then drove in Katlynn Sopczynski with another run, before Nichole Kirkpatrick plated two more with a double, to extend the lead to 10-0, Central. Alyssa Gutierrez and Alexis Riley knocked in two more runs with singles to push the Central lead to 12-0 before the top of the second was complete. Central finished off their scoring in the third, with Meehan’s third home run in as many innings and a sacrifice fly from Kirkpatrick.
