Millsboro to hold spring clean-up again
On Saturday, April 14, the Millsboro Downtown Partnership (MDP) will hold its second Downtown Millsboro Clean-Up.
MDP is a non-profit organization whose mission is supporting, creating and promoting the revitalization of downtown Millsboro while preserving its historical significance.
Millsboro resident Janice Fabian, who volunteers with the organization, said that the downtown clean-up was the brainchild of the organization’s founder, Jessica Wiggins.
“It was Jess’s idea,” said Fabian. “It’s to clean up the town, obviously; but, hopefully, it will instill some pride in our community – and to let people know that we are out there and, if they want to get out and be involved, they can.”
Fabian said that the group’s fall clean-up had a great showing of volunteers, who ran the gamut — from children to adults helping to spruce up the town’s downtown area.
For the spring clean-up, registration will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church, located at the corner of Ellis and State streets.
“People can come up, and we’ll have coffee and donuts. Then everyone will break down into groups, and we have a whole grid made up.”
Fabian said that MDP will provide bags in which to dispose of the collected trash.
“We have the bags, but people should bring their own gloves or other supplies, like brooms or rakes,” she suggested. “We’re just tidying up the curbs — from any trash to weeding that may need to be done.”
Following the clean-up, volunteers will return to Saint Mark’s around 11:30 a.m. for a free lunch as a “thank-you” to the volunteers.
“We’ll have a little barbecue with hamburgers and hotdogs,” she explained.
As for the event itself, Fabian said she hopes that many Millsboro residents will show up to support a cleaner Millsboro and the MDP’s overall goal to better the town.
“We hope that it’s well-attended, good weather and a lot fun. And, hopefully, we’ll get some new members to join us.”
A rain date is scheduled for May 5. For more information on the Millsboro Downtown Partnership, email email@example.com or visit sites.google.com/site/millsborodowntownpartnership.
