Roger W. Mitchell, 78, of Millsboro, Del., passed away at his home, in the care of his family and the Delaware Hospice. He was born in Omar, Del., on Aug. 12, 1939, to the late Franklin E. Mitchell and Madeline Baker Mitchell.

Upon graduation from high school, Mitchell entered the U.S. Marine Corps, serving an enlistment he was very proud of. After serving in the military, he was employed at the E.I. DuPont Chemical Company, retiring after decades of service as Group 5 supervisor.

Mitchell owned and trained horses, and was a member of the Standardbred Harness Racing Association and the American Legion Post in Milton, Del.

Above all, more than any of those accomplishments, Mitchell was devoted to his family, and he enjoyed life fully, possessing a wonderful sense of humor.

In addition to his parents, Mitchell was preceded in death by another brother, John Mitchell. He is survived by his wife, Judith L. Hickman Mitchell; two children, Keith Mitchell and his wife, Karen, of Seaford, Del., and Ross Mitchell and his wife, Jo Anne, who reside in England, his sister, Marie Phillips and her husband, Milton, of Dagsboro, Del.; a brother, Franklin Mitchell and his wife, Jenny, of Florida; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Jan. 12, 2018, at 1 p.m., in the Millsboro (Del.) Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Hudson officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial contributions to either the Home of the Brave veterans’ home; 6632 Sharps Rd., Milford, DE 19963; or to a charity that is dear to the giver’s heart.
