Ruth Ann Evans, 80

Ruth Ann Evans, 80, of Roxana, Del., peacefully passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2012, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes, Del.

Born at home in Roxana, Evans graduated from Goldey Beacom Business College of Wilmington and worked as a bookkeeper for Buntings Nurseries in Selbyville, Del. She was very active in the Order of the Eastern Star, Frankford Chapter #12. She was the organist for Roxana Methodist Church for many years and later attended St. Matthews By-the-Sea United Methodist Church in Fenwick Island.

Evans enjoyed the beach, surf-fishing and taking day trips with her husband and visiting family and friends. After her retirement, she became the caregiver for her mother and husband, and her stamina amazed her friends.

Evans was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Savage and Maude Evans Savage; her husband, Elmer in 2011; and her mother and sister-in-laws, Nettie and Elsie Quillen. She is survived by her neighbor and nephew, Clinton Evans; nieces, Lula Daisey, Martha McCabe, Nellie Brasure, Ollie Tharp and Becky Moore; nephews, Reggie and Gary Evans; a special cousin and neighbor, Rick Evans; and her friends and neighbors.

Services were scheduled for Thursday, May 31, 2012, at 1 p.m. at Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road in Ocean View, Del., where friends may call after 11 a.m. The Rev. Bruce Miller was to officiate. Interment was to be in the Roxana Cemetery. Condolences may be sent online at www.melsonfuneralservices.com. In lieu of flowers, the family suggested memorial donations be made to either Roxana Volunteer Fire Company; 35901 Zion Church Rd.; Frankford, DE 19945, or to St. Matthews By-The-Sea U.M.
