TOWN OF SOUTH BETHANY
NOTICE FOR SOLICITATION OF CANDIDATES
The Town of South Bethany has openings for four seats for Council Members and one seat for Mayor. Three council members and mayor seats are for two years. One council seat is for one year. Applications to run in the upcoming 2012 election are being accepted until 4:30 p.m, April 11, 2012. The applications are available at the Town Hall, 402 Evergreen Road, South Bethany, DE, 19930 or may be requested by e-mail
(firstname.lastname@example.org) or by calling (302)539-3653.
Candidates for the office of Town Council Member shall be a natural person at least twenty-one (21) years of age, a citizen of the United States, and otherwise qualified to vote at the annual municipal election as provided in C-6A as follows:
1. Be a citizen of the United States;
2. Be registered under the Town’s voter registration ordinance (if
one is in effect);AND
3. Have been either;
a. A “FREEHOLDER” (defined as any natural person who holds title of record either in his/her own name or as trustee
to a fee simple estate or a life estate in and to real property
located within the corporate limits of the town) IN THE
TOWN FOR A PERIOD OF NINETY (90) CONSECUTIVE
DAYS IMMEDIATELY PRECEDING THE DATE OF THE
b. A “RESIDENT OF TOWN” (defined as any natural person
who has been physically residing within the corporate limits
of the town for at least 9 months, consecutively or non-
consecutively, of the twelve-month period immediately
preceding the date of the election and who is physically
residing within the town on the date of the election).
c. The spouse of a FREEHOLDER, whether their name is on
the deed or not.
NO CANDIDATE FOR THE OFFICE OF TOWN COUNCIL MEMBER SHALL HAVE BEEN CONVICTED OF A FELONY OR CRIME OF MORAL TURPITUDE.
Absentee ballots are available for any resident who is not able to vote at the Town Hall on May 26, 2012. Residents who need to obtain an Absentee Ballot by mail should call the Town Hall at 302-539-3653 and an affidavit will be mailed to them. Residents must file the written affidavit with the Town no later than 12:00 p.m. on May 26, 2012. After receipt of the affidavit, the Absentee Ballot will be mailed. If you prefer, or if there is not sufficient time to receive the Absentee Ballot by mail, you may come to the Town Hall between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. to complete the affidavit and receive an Absentee Ballot. The Absentee Ballot must be filed with the Town no later than 3:00 p.m. on the day of the election; i.e. MAY 26, 2012.
