The Agenda

• The Fenwick Island Charter and Ordinance Review Committee will meet Friday, May 6, at 8:30 a.m. at the town hall.

• Mother’s Day is Sunday, May 8.

• The Seaside Craft Show Committee of Bethany Beach will meet Tuesday, May 10, at 1 p.m. at the town hall, to further planning of the scheduled June 4 inaugural craft show on the town’s boardwalk.

• The Sussex County Planning and Zoning Commission will meet Thursday, May 12, at 7 p.m., in the County Council Chambers of the County Administrative Office Building in Georgetown. Among the items on the agenda for the meeting are:

1) Further review of the application of Riverview LLC to amend the Comprehensive Zoning Map from a MR Medium Density Residential District to a MR-RPC Medium Density Residential District-Residential Planned Community for a 79.432-acre parcel lying southeast of Road 346A, 3,100 feet east of Road 346.

Commissioners have previously deferred action on the application twice, to consider objections and concerns regarding the 1,300-foot timber bridge proposed as the 72-home development’s sole access across tidal and non-tidal wetlands.

2) A public hearing on the application of Edward J. Chiasson to amend the Comprehensive Zoning Map from an AR-1 Agricultural Residential District to a C-1 General Commercial District for a 38,702-square-foot parcel of land lying northwest of Route 54, across from Road 394A, and _ mile southwest of Route 20.

3) Discussion of plans for a Rite Aid drugstore at Fenwick Plaza.

• Fenwick Island will hold a workshop without agenda (WWA) on Saturday, May 14, at 9 a.m. at the town hall.

• Bethany Beach will hold a special meeting Friday, May 20, at 2 p.m., to fill the town council seat vacated by Robert Degen, effective May 1. Those interested in serving the remainder of Degen’s term (expiring September 2006) must submit an application to the town manager’s office by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18. Candidates must be at least 21 years old and otherwise qualified to vote in annual town elections.

Once the applications have been submitted, they will be considered by the remaining members of the town council, who will elect the replacement at a special meeting May 20.

County Council

Tuesday, May 10 — Sussex County Administrative Office Building, 6:30 p.m. (2 The Circle, Georgetown)

• Council will consider a dog control proposal (the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, or SPCA, has declined to renew their contract).

• Finance Director David Baker will introduce an ordinance regarding a post-employment benefit plan (and payment of non-pension benefits).

• Assistant County Engineer Russell Archut is slated to recommend a consultant for the Dagsboro-Frankford and Western Sussex Planning Areas (county sewer study). Related, a public hearing (slated for 7:10 p.m.) on the “Muddy Neck Extension” to the South Bethany Sanitary Sewer District.

• An application for conditional use, submitted for the Loyal Order of the Moose, returns under old business. The public hearing is closed. Council deferred action on the application at the April 26 meeting.

• In local grant requests, Indian River School District (IRSD) Odyssey of the Mind Boosters, and Friends of the South Coastal Library (FOSCL).
