Fenwick Island

• The Fenwick Island Town Council will meet Friday, May 20, at 3:30 p.m. The meeting’s agenda includes the presentation of an award from Mothers Against Drunk Drivers (MADD) to Pfc. Jason Bergman of the town’s police department.

• The Fenwick Island Beach Patrol Committee will meet Saturday, May 21, at 1:30 p.m. in the town hall.

• Fenwick Island’s Budget Committee will meet Tuesday, May 24, at 2:30 p.m. at the town hall.

Bethany Beach

• Bethany Beach will hold a special meeting Friday, May 20, at 2 p.m., to fill the town council seat vacated by Robert Degen, effective May 1. Those interested in serving the remainder of Degen’s term (expiring September 2006) needed to submit an application to the town manager’s office by 4 p.m. on Wednesday, May 18. The applications will be considered by the remaining members of the town council, who will select the replacement at the 2 p.m. meeting on May 20.

• The Bethany Beach Town Council will meet Friday, May 20, at 7:30 p.m. The agenda for the meeting includes review and consideration of a DelDOT working group’s recommendations for a pedestrian and bicycle safety plan and consideration of reimbursement to Morning Star Construction, pursuant to Chapter 80-27 of the town code; and consideration of a resolution regarding gubernatorial affirmation of the town’s alderman.

• The Bethany Beach Planning Commission will meet Saturday, May 21, at 9 a.m. in the town hall.

Items on the agenda for the meeting include: 1) review of the planned residential development (PRD) preliminary plan submitted by Rick Snider for property located at 417 Central Avenue in the R-1 Zone; 2) Review of the PRD sketch plan submitted by H. Meredith Palmer for property located at 816 Garfield Parkway in the R-2 Zone; 3) review of the town’s comprehensive development plan (CDP) with Billy Fasano; 4) continued discussion of an architectural review board and “overlays”; and 5) continued review of zoning Chapter 200 “Subdivision of Land.”

Dagsboro

Monday, May 23 — Town council meeting, 7 p.m., Bethel Center (107 Clayton St.)

The town will hold public hearing on the B/Z Builders project, 15 single-family lots on a 7.9-acre parcel west of Main Street (rezoning to permit cluster development).

After the public hearing, engineer Chuck Hauser is scheduled to give an update on the town water system.

Council will then review revised plans for several pending applications and take action as needed, regarding those projects and the B/Z Builders application.

• Village at Pepper Creek, 86 single-family homes on 42.2 acres of land, also on Main Street, just past the B/Z Builders parcel (near Indian River High School) — cluster development.

• Landings of Pepper’s Creek, 336 townhouses on 39.4 acres (high density residential) north of Clayton Street.

• General’s Green, 513 units on 116 acres, north of Clayton Street.

• Estuary on Pepper Creek.

Council members will consider a conditional use request at the Cummings and Clark project, next to Mediacom, for a temporary office until the proposed office buildings are complete.

They will consider a public hearing date for the Vines Creek Village project, 52 homes on 23 acres (Route 20), an ordinance to create a Municipal Code and appointment of a hazard inspection committee for a property at 405 Main St.

In unfinished business, council will check the status on the town’s development chart, Comprehensive Plan and town zoning map, and (1) Savannah Square, (2) Beach Air Landing, (3) PGS properties annexation and (4) new Town Hall.

Indian River School District (IRSD)

Tuesday, May 24 — IRSD School Board meeting, 7:30 p.m., North Georgetown Elementary School (664 N. Bedford St., Georgetown).

Following presentations from Board Member M. Elaine McCabe and Board President Harvey Walls, and a variety of awards presentations, the School Board will review capital improvements progress and options for the 2005-2006 calendar.

Board members will review progress on major capital improvements, and hear from the Safety in Our Schools Committee, and an Indian River Boys’ Basketball Boosters Summer Camp report.

Following committee reports, district Superintendent Lois Hobbs will recognized the 2005-2006 Teacher of the Year, Jim DeBastiani of the Southern Delaware School of the Arts (SDSA).

Hobbs will give a recap on recent School Board election results, and a reminder regarding upcoming graduation ceremonies (Indian River High’s on Wednesday, June 1).

From the Financial Committee, fiscal year 2005 budget adjustments and the fiscal 2006 budget.

Sussex County

Tuesday, May 24 — Sussex County Council meeting, 10 a.m. (County Admin Building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown).

County Administrator Bob Stickels will offer his report, and news regarding police training expense reimbursement for the town of Selbyville.

Two ordinances come up for introduction

• An ordinance to define garage/studio apartments and to permit such apartments as special exceptions in certain districts

• An ordinance amending the provisions relating to the placement of multisectional mobile homes on five acres or less in an agricultural-residential (AR-1) district.

County Engineer Mike Izzo is scheduled to report on a study at the Sussex County Airport, and work at the South Coastal Regional Wastewater Facility (SCRWF), and

Assistant County Engineer Russell Archut is slated to discuss two local sanitary sewer expansions.

Project Engineer Adi Maneckshaw will recommend a consultant for the Dagsboro-Frankford and Western Sussex Planning Areas.

The Dagsboro Boys and Girls Club appears under grant requests, asking for assistance with educational games and supplies procurement.
