School district hears steel drums
The Indian River School District (IRSD) School Board dealt with a full agenda at the May 24 School Board meeting — according to Finance and Business Director Patrick Miller, the executive session let out well after 1 a.m.

Ocean View considers Town Road project
The Ocean View Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission reviewed conjoined site plans — (1) for a World Gym facility, and (2) for a pair of office buildings — at the May 19 P&Z meeting.

County initiates sewer study
Sussex County Council covered a range of local sewer projects at the May 24 council meeting — specific district expansions around Millville and Ocean View, and a massive study for Dagsboro-Frankford and West Sussex.

Dorfman tapped for Bethany council seat
On a 5-1 vote of six Bethany Beach town council members, Jerry Dorfman was selected May 20 to fill the council seat recently vacated by Robert Degen. (Degen, previously the council’s only non-resident member, cited other demands upon his time in resigning, effective May 1.)

Art league offers children's art classes
The Rehoboth Art League will offer weekly art classes for children this summer. Children’s classes are tailored to make art projects age appropriate and ensure that children are with other students close to his or her age. The summer class sizes are limited to 15. Berlin artists to display at Peninsula
Lynne Lockhart and Kirk McBride, both from Berlin, Md., will exhibit their paintings at the Peninsula Gallery May 28 through June 29. A reception to meet both artists will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., May 28. Both specialize in “plein air” work, where small paintings are completed onsite and used as studies for larger studio pieces, rather than painting direct from photographs. Both paint in oil and for this show have traveled the Eastern Shore recording the things they love, many of which are now beginning to disappear in the name of progress.

Bingo hits the beach
Grab something red, white and blue. Bingo-A-Go-Go hits the beach for the sixth summer with an event on Saturday, May 28 at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the first game will be called at 7 p.m.

Church aims to raise food for the hungry
