Ocean View
• Tuesday, June 21 Workshop meeting, 7 p.m., Town Hall (32 West Ave.)
Council will hold public hearing for the first reading of an ordinance to annex the county portion of the Lord Baltimore Elementary School property.
The council will continue discussions on three topics (1) the possibility of hiring a new engineer, (2) possible annexation of the Silver Woods subdivision, south of Bear Trap and (3) ideas for a proposed Department of Public Works facility.
Ordinances, infrastructure, police, finance and administration fall under new business.
Indian River School District (IRSD)
• Tuesday, June 21 IRSD School Board meeting, 7:30 p.m., Frankford Elementary School (30207 Frankford School Rd.)
The district will recognize several teachers from Long Neck Elementary, and the Odyssey of the Mind team that recently earned a second place finish at the World Finals in Boulder, Colo. (and their coach, Lisa Forney).
Also up for accolades, the Sussex Central Senior High School girls’ softball team, for their victory at the state championships (and their coach, John Wells).
Indian River High School Principal Mark Steele and retiring Athletic Director Dale Steele (no relation) will accept the Henlopen Conference Founder’s Cup, for outstanding teams all around.
Following the public comment segment, board members will review the progress report on major capital improvement projects.
Fiscal year 2006 tax rates, minor cap, tuition, debt service and the senior citizen tax discount appear under new business, followed by an update on state legislative action, and committee reports.
Sussex County
• Tuesday, June 21 County Council meeting, 10 a.m., County Admin building (2 The Circle, Georgetown).
County Administrator Bob Stickels is slated to present several tributes and announce Library Advisory Board appointments and a grant presentation (to Interfaith Mission of Sussex County).
Council will hold public hearing on two local sewer district expansions the Forest Landing Expansion of the Miller Creek district, and the Beaver Dam Expansion of the Bethany Beach district.
Assistant County Engineer Russell Archut is scheduled to discuss an escrow agreement and contract amendment relating to the Beaver Dam Expansion, and Project Engineer Douglas Stewart will discuss an amended engineering services agreement pertaining to construction at the South Coastal Regional Wastewater Facility (SCRWF).
Council will take another look at realignment options on Park Avenue as well (the county is adding 1,000 feet to the runway at the Sussex County Airport, and will need to reconfigure the nearby road).
After lunch, council is scheduled to reconvene (1:30 p.m.) for a workshop on three draft ordinances, relating to (1) open space in new developments, (2) a Commercial-Residential (CR-1) zoning district and (3) addressing and street naming.
Fenwick Island
• Fenwick Island will feature storytime in the town park on Saturday, June 18, at 10 a.m.
• The Fenwick Island Town Council will hold its regular monthly meeting on Friday, June 24, at 3:30 p.m. at the town hall.
Bethany Beach
• Bethany Beach will host a public workshop on Friday, June 17, at 2 p.m. to discuss recommendations made by DelDOT and JMT Engineering regarding pedestrian and bicycle safety in the town. Recommendations include conversion of Atlantic and Pennsylvania avenues into one-way streets with pedestrian and bicycle traffic lanes. • The Bethany Beach Town Council will meet Friday, June 17, at 7:30 p.m. for its regular monthly meeting. The agenda includes: discussion and vote regarding committee guidelines and the International Property Maintenance Code; a first reading of the proposed swimming pool ordinance; final review and approval of the town’s Comprehensive Development Plan before it goes to state officials for certification; and consideration of a contract submitted by Cross Match Technologies Inc. for a live scan system with hardware and software.
• The annual summer entertainment series hosted by Bethany Beach will feature the First State Symphonic Band on Friday, June 17, at 7:30 p.m. at the boardwalk bandstand. • The Bethany Beach Planning Commission will meet Saturday, June 18, at 9 a.m. at the town hall. The agenda for the meeting includes consideration of an application for land partitioning filed by Tracy and Margaret Mulligan, for property at 98 Central Avenue, in the R-1 district; and review of a P.R.D. preliminary plan submitted by Rick Snider for property at 417 Central Avenue in the R-1 zone.
Commissioners will also consider possible uses for the former Christian Church and Neff properties, as well as a proposal related to architectural “overlay” zones.
Selbyville
• Selbyville will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new railroad museum on Saturday, June 18, at 9 a.m.
• The annual Old Timer’s Day event will take place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, in downtown Selbyville. The event will include an antique car show featuring antique cars, motorcycles and tractors, along with a craft show, outdoor activities and food vendors.
Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission
• The Sussex County Planning & Zoning Commission will meet at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 23, in the County Council Chambers of the County Administrative Office Building in Georgetown.
