The Agenda
Sussex County
• Sussex County Council will meet on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at 10 a.m., at the County Administrative Building (2 The Circle). Council will consider a wastewater construction project at Warrington Creek, and reconsider conditions of approval associated with two conditional uses, one being Jody Sweetman’s request for an upholstery shop near Bayard.
• A conditional use request for 84 Lumber is back on council’s agenda this application generated some controversy among neighbors who say the lumber yard doesn’t fit with the surrounding residential character (although there are other businesses nearby, as well). The county Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission turned it down by a 3-2 vote back in March.
• There will be two public hearings on (1) an ordinance relating to the placement of multi-sectional mobile homes and (2) an ordinance permitting garage/studio apartments as special exceptions in various residential zoning districts.
• In the afternoon, beginning at 1:30 p.m., council will open public hearings on two local changes of zone (1) from agricultural-residential (AR-1) to Commercial (C-1) on 6.5 acres, Route 54 and Old Mill Bridge Road, (2) from AR-1 to high-density residential (HR-1) on 12.7 acres, same location as above both filed on behalf of PGS Properties.
South Bethany
• South Bethany Town Council will host a public hearing on Friday, Aug. 12, at town hall (402 Evergreen Rd.), regarding a proposed police station/town hall combo capital project, not to exceed $970,000. Plans for the building project will be on display from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., prior to the hearing.
• Immediately following the hearing, but no later than 8 p.m., council will hold its regular monthly meeting. On the agenda, a resolution to schedule a special election (referendum) pertaining to the capital project mentioned above, and discussion of a proposal from Verizon for cellular telephone infrastructure, on top of and near the base of the Artesian water tower.
Ocean View
• Ocean View Town Council will meet for a work session on Tuesday, Aug. 16, at town hall (32 West Ave.). Council is slated to consider an ordinance to the personnel policy manual, relating to holidays, two bid packages (one for the new police facility, slated for Central Avenue near Bear Trap, the other for a drainage project) and negotiation of a property tax reassessment contract.
• Under old business, prospective Department of Public Works (DPW) sites and plans, and developing a strategy for working with the state on Route 26 issues.
• The Ocean View Planning and Zoning (P&Z) Commission will meet on Thursday, Aug. 18, at town hall. The Commission will review Regina O’Rourke’s petition for annexation and an ordinance rezoning various residential parcels along Route 26 as General Business (GB) and three site plan reviews.
• The P&Z will also review (1) a subdivision roughly 2 acres into four lots at 2 Central Ave., (2) a preliminary site plan for a nine-townhouse project on 1.85 acres at 32 Atlantic Ave. (Route 26) and (3) a three-lot subdivision and final site plan for a project at 88 Woodland Ave.
Fenwick Island
• The Fenwick Island Town Council will not hold a Workshop Without Agenda on Saturday, Aug. 13, as originally scheduled. The council will again convene for its monthly meeting on Aug. 26 at 3:30 p.m.
Bethany Beach
• Bethany Beach will hold a Charter Ordinance Review on Aug. 18 at 2 p.m. in Town Hall.
• The Town Council of Bethany Beach will hold an organizational meeting concurrent with its regularly scheduled meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 19 in the town meeting room, 214 Garfield Parkway.
