John L. Heron III, of Anchorage, Alaska, and a friend from Montana caught this 293 lb. halibut out of Seward, Alaska. Heron is the son of Mr. & Mrs. John L. Heron Jr., of Ocean View.

Tom from Cedar Creek Tackle Shop reported there are some nice flounder, up to 8 pounds, being caught in the Anchorage in 40 to 45 feet of water and near Brown Shoal. Some small trout and bluefish up to 18 inches are also reported in this same area.

Gene Huiman from Boilingspring, Pa., caught an 8-pound, 4-ounce flounder while fishing minnow/squid combo in the Anchorage.

Joe Morris from Lewes Harbor Marina reported flounder fishing is still good in the Bay around the Reef Sites and on the open bottom near A buoy on the east comer of the Anchorage. There is still good croaker fishing outside of the outer wall in 30 feet of water.

Joe Walker Jr. from Boothwyn, Fla., caught a nice 9-pound flounder, and Tom Coyle from Twinoaks, Pa, caught a 9.47-pound flounder while fishing the Starsite Reef. The fish were weighed at Lewes Harbor Marina.

The Headboats from Fishermans Wharf and Indian River Inlet all had good catches of sea bass, flounder and croakers, with a few bluefish and trout mixed in their catch.

From the Pier at Cape Henlopen, Jo reported that the catches of spot are unbelievable, with anglers filling up their coolers. She also said there are bluefish up to 4 pounds being caught on cut bait at the end of the pier, along with some small trout at night.

Rick from Rick’s Bait & Tackle reported some keeper flounder, small bluefish and some short stripers in Massey’s Ditch. Croakers and flounder are being caught near Buoy 11-12 in Indian River Bay.

George DiGardi, from Delaware, caught a 6.5-pound flounder while drifting in Massey’s Ditch. The fish took a Jive minnow.

Bluefish continue to blitz the Indian River Inlet on the first and last of the incoming tides and can be caught on bucktails, spoons, hard plugs and Gotcha lures. Lots of small stripers are being taken at night using live eels, spot and dark-colored plugs. The Storm lures also have been productive.

Don Hess and Ashley Trout from Lancaster, Pa., caught croakers, small stripers and bluefish while fishing off the Sea Wall near the Coast Guard Station. They were using sandfleas and Atom plugs.

Outside of Indian River, fishing on the open bottom has been good, with catches of croakers, some sea bass and a lot of nice flounder.

The Bite Me II, with Captain Bill Frinder, and The Boss’s Val caught seven flounder averaging more than 4 pounds each while fishing southeast of B buoy. Butch and Tracy Geho, fishing on the 5-OH caught five flounder, each up to 6 pounds, 15 ounces, while fishing near B buoy. The fish were caught on minnows and squid.

Offshore, tuna are scattered with catches reported from the Lindenkohl to the Norfolk Canyons. There have been some good catches. However, there doesn’t seem to be a good concentration of fish.

Chunking near the 800-900 line has been productive, and trolling near the 30-fathom, inside the Washing Canyon, is also producing some nice yellowfin tuna. White and blue marlin catches remain good from the 100-fathom to the 1,000-fathom in most of the canyons.

Out of Con Troll, out of Indian River with Captain Dave Eberle and anglers Richard, Mark, Todd, Jerry and First Mate Dave Kirk, caught four dolphins, a 42-pound yellowfin tuna and broke off a blue marlin while fishing at the Baltimore Canyon.

Captain Bill Weistling and Bill Jr., from Fenwick Island fishing on Bill’s Diamond caught two nice dolphins at 44 Inches and 36 inches, and ranging from 12 to 17 pounds, while fishing southeast of the Jack Spot. The fish took a skirted Ballyhoo.

Surfing fishing along the Delaware coast hasn’t changed much from last week, with catches of kingfish, spot, croakers and some small trout. In the last few days, some small bluefish have appeared. The best baits: bloodworms, squid, Fish Bites and cut bait.
