Dagsboro goes to bottled water
Delaware Division of Public Health (DPH) staff was surprised to discover unusually high levels of trichloroethylene (TCE) in drinking water at a local Boys and Girls Club last week, and promptly advised Millsboro and Dagsboro town residents to stop drinking the water.
County codifies 911 addressing
Emergency responders turned out in force for the Oct. 25 Sussex County Council meeting, voicing strong support for an ordinance that will require county residents to post their new 911 addresses within the next year and a half.
Bethany Beach's water to be flouridated
Bethany Beach residents will get something new in their water this week: a small amount of fluoride.
Town stresses need for registration
There are no off years in Dagsboro. Elections are a-coming, Saturday, Dec. 3, and town residents will need to pick their top three. Mayor S. Brad Connor and Council Member Jamie Kollock will seek to retain seats this year, and Council Member Clay Hall has announced he will not seek reelection.
Bethany suggests increased off-street parking spaces
Only eight days after the first meeting of the Bethany Beach Planning Commission’s ad hoc committee, commission members gave the go-ahead for one of the concepts put forward by the new committee: a requirement for four off-street parking spaces for new construction or renovations, instead of the two currently required.
Bethany slip-ramp plan not endorsed
Bethany Beach officials have at least for now rebuffed efforts by the Sea Colony Recreation Association (SCRA) to obtain their endorsement for a major alteration of the intersection between Route 1 and Pennsylvania Avenue.

Streetscape project revived in Bethany
Bethany Beach Town Manager Cliff Graviet raised hopes once again for the town’s planned “Streetscape” project at the Oct. 21 town council meeting, citing information that Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) officials were optimistic funds for the project would be restored despite a general funding shortfall.

Town gets into spirit
Halloween comes early in the Town of Frankford, as residents host the Second Annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Oct. 29. The festivities begin with a parade local fire trucks, the Indian River High School JROTC, a truck and patrol boat from the state Division of Fish and Wildlife and a four-person “Bookworm,” to be donned by the staff at the Frankford Public Library.

Indians take Laurel's shot, roll
Just 20 seconds into the game, Laurel’s Jeramy Bagwell took an Armand Brodeur’s pass 91-yards for a first-play touchdown against Indian River on Oct. 21. But the Indians would combine grind-it-out football with big plays to earn their seventh win by scoring 25 unanswered points, defeating Laurel 25-6 on Oct. 21.
Selbyville notches 17th straight win
Selbyville Middle School football is on a roll following their 40-6 defeat of Laurel Middle School on Oct. 20. Selbyville’s record improved to 5-0, which marks their 17th game won in a row.
Local team wins national title
Delaware’s Old Tymers Naturals softball team came up just short of winning the Triple Crown of Senior Softball last week, falling to Seattle 11-10 in the gold-medal round despite owning a six-run lead going into the sixth inning.
Lady Indians aim to play enough, win
The strong, driving weather associated with Hurricane Wilma and a rampaging nor’easter couldn’t edge out Indian River’s varsity field hockey team in their 2-1 victory against Milford on Oct. 25, but it sure did put them in a tight spot coming down the stretch towards the state tournament.
Volleyball team looks to make states
Indian River’s varsity volleyball has achieved two of their three goals for the year: win more games than they did last year and win the Southern Division. But making the state tournament is on hold for the moment.
